This is the traditional form of yoga that helps to control the mind and body through various holistic techniques. This type of yoga is involved performing poses that are slow or medium and requires the individual to hold the pose for a long time. It helps you to prepare for deep meditation and helps to improve your health and increases happy thoughts.
Hatha in Sanskrit means pressure or forceful. That's why hatha yoga means such a yoga posture in which physical force and physical pressure are applied. It can be understood in this way, the yoga in which there is a balance of both body and mind is called hatha yoga. Under this yoga style, pranayama breathing, chanting and yoga poses done with hands are called mudras. There are mainly such poses in Hatha Yoga, in which one does not remain in the same posture for a long time, in this, the postures are changed quickly. The best example of this is Surya Namaskar. In this, all the steps are done quickly, no time is spent in the postures.
The Astanga Vinyasa yoga style created in the 20th century by Krishna Pattabhi is a modern form of the classical art of yoga. This style of yoga is linked with movements called vinyasa, which involves body movements and simultaneous breathing. It is a great form to increase flexibility.
The style is propagated by Pattabhi Jois, who learnt it from his teacher "Tirumalai Krishnamacharya". To expand it, Jois started his own Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute in the year 1948. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga is an energetic style which works by getting breath synchronising with movements. Every single asana of the series is directly linked with flowing movements or Vinyasa. The style which is in current teaching is known as the "Mysore Style" as it originally originated in Mysore. It further gives rise to various other styles of Power Yoga.
Pranayama is the practice of inhaling and exhaling breath regulation. Pranayama is derived from the Sanskrit word “Parna” and “Yama” which means life energy and control. You intentionally breathe in and breathe out air to achieve the benefits of Pranayama.
The word Pranayama is made up of Prana + Ayama. This means, controlling your breath and the expansion of breath is called Pranayama. The flow of life force in our body gives us life force. Pranayama is the easiest way to keep our bodies alive and our minds strong. Through pranayama, we understand the depth and seriousness of yoga and we learn to control our breath. Controlling the breath depends on our Prana. Pranayama is one of the eight limbs of yoga. The eight limbs of yoga are Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and Samadhi.
This propagates the idea of yoga as a way of thinking that benefits from rehearses. The yoga philosophy or the way of thinking about yoga helps you achieve harmony and tranquillity in life and brings unending joy, physical and mental stability, and great thinking power. This course helps you to understand the reasonings for yoga.
Maharishi Patanjali is the founder of Yoga philosophy. Yoga philosophy is one of the six theistic philosophies (Shad Darshanas). The first book of this philosophy is the Yoga Sutras. Yoga philosophy is also known as Seshvara Sankhya or Theistic Sankhya. Because it accepts almost all the beliefs of Sankhya in relation to life and the world. Also, it accepts the existence of God. In yoga philosophy, God is described as a special power who remains unaffected by tribulation, karma, result, ideal, culture, etc. Its function is not to provide liberation, but only to remove obstacles from the path of the seeker. The Bhagavad Gita is also called Yoga Shastra i.e. the manual of Yoga.
While performing certain asanas, you might feel stress on your muscles. Don't worry if you feel so because it is normal. Wear and Tear on joints and muscles while getting into the practice of yoga is not a big. No matter you're a beginner or experienced, you can experience some sudden or sharp pain in a particular pose. This can sometimes leads to injury. Don't get scared! To avoid risk of injuries and pain, Alignment classes are organised.
So, what exactly an alignment class is? In an Alignment class, you will learn the precise and ideal way to perform any given pose so that you can get maximum benefits of it and minimize the risk of injury. It normalize the use of props and modifications during yoga asanas. When you get to know alignment, then you can make any pose work for you.
The six inward cleanings and purging practice that brings in the benefits of a rich experience in yoga is called Shatkarma. It is a magnificent practice that addresses different parts of the body like the sensory system, the stomach, the circulatory system, the respiratory system, etc. This practice makes the yoga experience profound and rich.
The origin of the word Shatkarma is from the combination of these two words "Shat" and "Karma". In this, Shat means six and Karma means actions. Thus Shatkarma means 'six actions'. Here Shatkarma refers to the six special actions through which the body is purified. In Hatha Yoga, these six types of purification actions are called Shatkarma. Maharishi Gherand has described six Shatkarmas as the first part of Yoga in the Gherand Samhita. They believe that without the practice of Shatkarma, no seeker can achieve success in the path of Yoga. First of all purification of the body is necessary. Without purification of the body, it is difficult for the seeker to move forward in following other parts of yoga. That's why Maharishi Gherand has accepted Shatkarma as the first part of Yoga.
The anatomy and physiology of yoga are related to the medical benefits of this ancient art on the muscles, bones, and the entire anatomy of the individual. The extraordinary yoga poses that are focused on the various life structures and restrictions of the body are considered here.
Anatomy is a branch of science dealing with the bodily structure of a living being. You will get to know a complete understanding of the inner structure and the movements associated with each pose. It revolves around the layers of the body, mind, and energies flowing in the body. In simple words, yoga anatomy teaches you everything in relation to body organs, tissues, muscles, and so on. Yoga Physiology is that branch that explains the functions of organisms. It makes you understand the basic functioning of the cell and living beings at the molecular level. In simple words, Physiology is about learning yoga asanas, breathing techniques, and more.
The art of meditation forms an integral part of the course. Meditation involves calming the entire body and mind of the individual. The course each day is challenging and requires practicing new skills. Meditation helps to stay stress-free and acquire those skills to the best of one's capabilities.
Meditation is a way through which you can come out of your stressful life and improve your lifestyle. Because in today's time people mostly go through mental illness due to which their daily routine gets disturbed. People associated with yoga are most aware of this mindfulness practice because they do not forget to include it in their daily routine. Therefore, listening to your breath or listening to the sound of birds clearly while in the posture of dhyana is meditation, but when you do not experience anything else while in this posture, then you are in the right state of meditation.
